In short
- NC’s own notes: at Full HD use the Very Low preset on minimum hardware and Low on recommended hardware.
- Install the game on an SSD; NC recommends it for both tiers.
- Update your GPU driver, close overlays and background recorders, and make sure Windows uses your dedicated GPU.
- Lower the graphics preset and resolution before you touch config files; config edits and third-party ‘FPS boosters’ are unsupported.
- If FPS is fine but the game feels laggy, the problem is network, not graphics — see the ping guide.
What NC officially says about performance
NC’s requirement notes on Steam are the only official performance guidance for Global so far:
| Your hardware | Suggested preset at Full HD |
|---|---|
| Minimum tier (GTX 1050 Ti, 8 GB RAM) | Very Low |
| Recommended tier (RTX 2070, 16 GB RAM) | Low |
Both tiers ask for an SSD. So if you have a mid-range PC and play on Medium or High, low FPS in crowded places is expected. See system requirements.
The tips below are general PC practice. They are not official NC instructions, which is why this page is marked as unconfirmed.
Step 1: basic checks
- Update your GPU driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
- Use the dedicated GPU. On laptops, set AION 2 to “High performance” in Windows Graphics settings.
- Plug in your laptop and use a high-performance power plan.
- Move the game to an SSD if it sits on a hard drive.
- Close background apps: browsers with video, screen recorders, RGB tools and extra overlays.
Step 2: in-game settings
- Start from the preset NC suggests for your tier.
- Set the resolution to your monitor’s native resolution. Lower it only if needed.
- Raise one setting at a time and test in a busy town or a field boss fight, not in an empty field.
- Shadows, effects and view distance usually cost the most in big MMO fights. Lower them first.
- Cap the frame rate to your monitor refresh rate to reduce heat and stutter.
We will add a setting-by-setting guide once we verify the Global graphics menu.
Official performance fixes so far
The October 14, 2026 patch fixed several performance problems. If you had these issues before, test again after updating:
- reduced stutter in large Abyss battles;
- wrong graphics settings on PCs with two graphics cards;
- crashes at certain refresh rates on 4K monitors;
- longer loading times with FSR enabled;
- graphics settings are no longer saved to Steam Cloud, so settings from another PC no longer overwrite yours.
Step 3: if it still stutters
- Stutter while moving through the world often comes from storage speed. An SSD helps most.
- Stutter after a patch can be shader compilation. It usually fades after some play time.
- Rubber-banding or delayed skills with good FPS is a network issue. See ping and connection.
What not to do
- Do not install “FPS boosters”, injectors or modified client files. NC’s Operation Policy treats unauthorized programs and client tampering as ban reasons.
- Do not download “optimized config” files from unknown sites.
- Do not buy “performance” services that ask for your account login.
Unsupported setups
Steam Deck, Linux and Mac are not officially supported. Performance there is not covered by NC support. See platforms.
FAQ
What are the best graphics settings for AION 2?
Start from the preset NC suggests for your hardware: Very Low at Full HD on minimum specs, Low at Full HD on recommended specs. Raise single settings one by one while you watch FPS in busy areas.
Why is my FPS low on an RTX card?
The recommended RTX 2070 tier targets the Low preset at Full HD, so higher presets need stronger hardware. Also check that the game runs on the dedicated GPU, not integrated graphics.
Do FPS boosters or ping boosters help?
We do not recommend third-party tools that hook into the game. NC’s Operation Policy sanctions unauthorized programs. Network tools are covered separately in our ping guide.
Is there an FPS counter?
You can use the overlay FPS counter of Steam (Settings → In-Game) or your GPU driver. We have not verified an in-game FPS counter option.
Does AION 2 support DLSS or FSR?
The client has an FSR option: NC’s Oct 14 patch notes fixed longer loading times when FSR is enabled. We found no official mention of DLSS.
